Six weeks to go until one of the fastest & friendliest local 5k runs on Sat 31st August 2024!

Now in our 13th year Alderton 5k Run is a flat, fast and super-friendly charity run with 100% of all entry fees* going to support Alderton Acorns Pre-School and Toddler Group, our much-loved village.

  • Fast, mostly flat course
  • Ideal for all levels - finish times range from 16 to 45 mins
  • Medals & free finish line photos
  • Family-friendly

We welcome all runners, from experienced club runners to Couch to 5k, and everyone in-between. Under 16's, pushchairs, dogs on canicross leads, and escorted runners are all welcome.

St Margaret’s Church, Alderton Flower Festival, Summer Fair and Gift Day is on Saturday 27th July from 12pm to 4pm.

These events will be in the Church and Churchyard with a great range of cakes and hot drinks being served in the Village Hall.

Come along and see what the Flower Festival theme is this year - the entry is free but donations would be welcome to help in the upkeep of our lovely Church building.

There will be a wide variety of stalls - some craft stalls and games and face painting for the children.

There will be Pimms, Beer, Prosecco and soft drinks served, together with strawberries and cream and some savoury snacks in the Churchyard.

There will be a raffle and if you are able to donate a prize, please drop it at Tania Mills 25A Willowbank Road or Annie Martin at Church Cottage, St Margarets Road.

Alderton Handbelles will be playing a variety of their songs at 12pm and 2pm.

Please bring cash. We have a SumUp machine in each place but cash will be easier for us! It will be great to see you.

There will be some paper copies in the shop and on various notice boards around the village. There are lots of different classes for everyone to enjoy and get involved in, including Fruit and Veg growing, Flower displays, Art and Craft, Baking and Making, and fun junior classes.
New for this year is a young person’s category up to the age of 16. Or in the spirit of recycling and reusing, how about entering the ‘something new from something old’ category.
 
Remember, It’s all in the name of fun and community spirit!

Alderton's fast, flat (ish!) and super-friendly run last year raised a record £2,737, every penny of which went to Alderton Acorns. The course is ideal for clocking a good time and we welcome all runners from complete beginners to experienced club runners. Find out more and enter online at www.alderton5k.co.uk.

PLEASE AVOID BECKFORD ROAD
Our paramount concern is for the safety of our 200 runners and we'd appreciate if local residents could please keep Beckford Road towards Beckford clear of cars and use an alternative route.
 
The course starts at the Gardeners Arms, goes past Great Washbourne then turns back to the finish on Alderton Playing Field. Access to Beckford Road will be limited at the following times:
  • Gardeners Arms > Franklin Road  - 11am to 11.10am 
  • Beckford Road to/from A46 - 11am to 11.45am
  • Great Washbourne - 11.10am to 11.30am
  • Albutts - please leave Albutts by 11.10am

Not only do we have the Alice in Wonderland Flower Festival and Mad Hatters Tea Party next Saturday - we also have the Alderton Art and Craft Exhibition where you can enjoy and buy the work of local artists!

This will be in the Village Hall from 10am to 4pm to run alongside Alice's adventures. So come and enjoy looking at all the work. There are 16 Artists and Craft makers showing their work so there will be a great variety for you to enjoy.

We will now have a card machine to make it easier for you to buy something!

Again the entry is free but donations towards the Church would be welcome. The artists are very kindly donating a % of their sales to Church funds. Our poster shows a sample of all the Artists work - we look forward to seeing you. ​
Go down the “rabbit hole” at the entrance to St Margaret’s Church on Saturday July 29th from 10am-4pm and experience the magical, fantasy world of Alice in Wonderland at our themed Flower Festival.

All of your favourite characters will be on show, and the church will be filled with the scent and vibrant colours of fresh flowers - go bonkers looking for the Mad Hatter, don’t be late for the White Rabbit, and spot the Cheshire Cat before he disappears!

It’s free entry but any donation to much needed church funds will be very welcome.

And to sustain you before you head off to the Art Exhibition and Sale in the Village Hall, join the “Mad Hatter’s Tea Party” in the churchyard from 10.30 onwards when we’ll be serving pots of tea, cafetières of coffee and delicious homemade cakes and savouries - muffins, sausage rolls, scones, chocolate fudge cake, coffee & walnut, lemon drizzle, Victoria sponge, jam tarts  - AND Pimms & alcoholic drinks will be served from 12.30! We're excited to confirm the details of the Alderton Coronation Street Party on Sunday May 7th. Bring your own lunch and join our community picnic along pretty Church Road, starting at 12:30. You'll be accompanied by super-talented local singer-songwriter Daisy Kane.

Throughout the afternoon performer Nula Hula will be wow'ing us with a hula display and we'll have traditional entertainments like hook-a-duck and tin can alley. For our younger residents, there are circus skills workshops, face painting, and loads of crafting. There's no need to book and all of this is completely free of charge.

There'll be plenty of refreshments with a cake stall, ice cream stand and well-stocked bar, all of which you'll need to pay for (sorry!).

ALL ALDERTON RESIDENTS ARE WELCOME!
This is an open invitation for everyone in our community, villagers new or old, to come together. If you're new to the village or haven't been to one of our community events we'd love you to come. To help us all get to know each other we'll ask everyone to wear a name sticker.

​If you'd like to come but haven't got anyone to picnic with message us and we'll do some picnic matchmaking. You're also welcome to get involved and help on the day.

​Why not come and enjoy a full Afternoon tea on Easter Monday April 10th in Alderton Village Hall, 2.30 until 4.30 to make a special end to the Easter weekend.

The tea will include delicious savoury bites, finger sandwiches, scone with cream and jam and a selection of homemade cakes, served on vintage china.

The price will be £12 with a glass of prosecco or £10 without and £5 for children under 10s. The money raised will go to the Church's upkeep.

The Great Washbourne Summer Supper will be held on Friday 24th June  at 6.30pm in the garden of Great Washbourne House.

​Some local Cheltenham musicians will be providing us with light summer music during the evening. A supper of roast pork (veggie alternative available) and salads will be served with all the trimmings, and strawberries & cream for dessert.

There will be a bar, raffle and other entertainment including skittles. Do come and join us for what promises to be a great evening.

To celebrate the Queens Platinum Jubilee, Alderton Village are organizing various events and activities culminating in a Big Lunch and party on the Playing Field on Sunday 5th June. 

​We'd like to collect photographs from villagers who may have been at the Coronation Street Parties, Silver Jubilee etc... To collate a photographic exhibition of your memories of the Queens 70 years of reign. 
Programme of events

THURSDAY 2nd JUNE

12.30pm to 2.30pm - Children's Art/Craft workshop - Village Hall - free
Led by resident artist Antonia Black. All children of the village are welcome.

SATURDAY 4th JUNE

12pm to 2pm - View Children’s Art - Village Hall

2pm to 4pm - Over the Garden Fence
Let's decorate the village, festoon our front gardens and catch up for drinks and nibbles with our neighbours around the village.

SUNDAY 5th JUNE 

12pm to 6pm - Jubilee Big Lunch Picnic and Party - Alderton Playing Field

12.30 to 1pm - Children Pageant & procession
The children will go in procession from School Rd to Alderton Playing Field carrying flags, crowns and wearing fancy dress.

1pm to 3pm - Big Lunch Picnic
Bring your own picnic. There will be a cake and coffee marquee, a paid bar, children’s games and live music by the Malvern Hillbillies.

3pm to 4.30pm - Alderton’s Got Talent
Calling all you talented musicians, dancers, singers and any other art form, show us your talent!

4.30pm to 6pm
BBQ, more live music.

End - Sing-a-long
The Party will end with a few rousing well known songs. Audience participation will be encouraged, or maybe required!

Once again in an old Alderton Christmas tradition, the Married folk of Alderton will take to the field of play against our Single ‘friends’. We can't guarantee the quality of the football, in fact, we can - it won't be very good - but we can offer a fun match between members of our community old and new. Full of outrageous dives, occasional cheating and blatant referee influencing at the least it'll get you out of the house after Christmas .

So please come along and support your team! The match kicks off at 11am with everyone welcome afterward in the Gardeners Arms for post-match socialising, awards, fines, and refreshments.

Teas, coffee and cake are kindly provided by Alderton Acorns who will keep the proceeds.

There will be something for everyone - children's fancy dress parade to open the fete (entry forms in the village shop, the infant base and with playgroup) Cream Teas (in village hall if weather poor), unusual craft stalls both in and outside the church, together with a pamper corner (try a massage or nail treatment then browse the accessories and Neal's Yard stalls), traditional cakes, books and children's games. Have a go on the wheel of fortune and coconut shy and take a punt on the raffle! You might be lucky!

This year we would be very grateful for donations for the cake stall - deliver to church on the morning, tombola items - to Ros 620560 - (soft drinks, food items, bath and shower products, mugs of sweets rather than chocolate) and plant stall - to Joy 620417 a week in advance. Due to the generosity of the village in previous years, we do not need scarves, jewellery or gifts this year so thank you. Free entry, all proceeds go to maintaining St Margaret's Church.
