A 5:4 win for the Singles in Alderton’s annual Married v Singles charity football match which raised £2,211 for Macmillan Cancer Support. Alderton Acorns also raised £250 from hot drinks and bacon rolls.
Player of the Match was Rupert Kinder, although who knows why after his howler for the Singles fourth goal. Dribbling across his own box Rupert missed the incoming threat of Arthur Kane who whipped the ball off of the oblivious Rupert and converted past keeper Greidy. That made it 4:3. Then to rub salt into the wounds Kelly Adamas converted past Griedy at the front post with a sizzling finish. Marrieds got a consolation goal at the last whistle to make it 5:4.
There were four father/son and one father/daughter combos, Brittany played her first match, one of the assistant referees was the 10-year old son of one of the goalkeepers, and at its peak there were over 100 people on the field playing, helping or supporting!
Thanks as always to our players, supporters, volunteers, The Gardeners Arms and to the Greaves family who support us so generously each year.
