 Alderton Village celebrated "localism" in action when the recent Charles Church Development was refused by Tewkesbury Borough after the village had put up a strong argument as to why the development was a bad idea.
It was defeated because it was not sustainable within the village and was to be built on the edge of an area of outstanding beauty. Over 90% of the village participated in a local survey and a great many of the village worked in producing a professional objection and in sending objections to our local MP and the Tewkesbury planning committee. The village is working hard now on producing a Neighbourhood plan which is well on the way. The evening was a success although a muted celebration as we fully expect the developers to appeal the decision. We just had to celebrate how well the village had worked together. Again a big thanks to the councillors who voted against the development and supported us, our local MP who also supported us and finally to the village for working together and achieving outstanding work.

 Pegasus Group have submitted an application for 70 houses behind St. Margarets Road with access through St. Margarets Drive. They state that 70 houses is appropriate for Alderton! It's a shame the village don't agree.
Pegasus Planning group on behalf of Freemans Homes have submitted an outline planning application for the erection of up to 70 homes and parking behind St Margarets Road with access from St Margarets Drive.
Pegasus propose to present to the village in early September. To see an outline plan and for more information click here.  Charles Church's application is not being considered at Tewkesbury Borough Council's Aug 20th Planning meeting and is being held back until the Joint Core Strategy meetings have been held at the three local authorities affected. Tewkesbury Borough Councils Joint Core Strategy meeting is on 3rd September with Gloucester on the 12th September.
Joint Core Strategy 'preferred options' will therefore be known before Charles Church's planning application goes before the Tewkesbury planning committee. This may mean that Charles Church will go to appeal on the basis of non-determination but this should not reflect on the outcome if it is decided by inspector. To find out more about the Charles Church application click here.  The Group met on 22nd July but unfortunately progress with safety measures on the B4077 is disappointingly slow. Gloucestershire Highways now think they may be able to make the gates a workable option on the B4077 and so will come back to the group with some ideas, plus some costs for traffic monitoring systems.
The suitability of SIDs (speed indication device) and training on these and hand held speed devices are being investigated. The police speed camera has visited Frampton on three occasions and caught four speeding drivers. The camera will in future target some different times of the day. The white lining outside Frampton cottages will be reviewed when the re-surfacing works take place, but these have now been put back to 2014. To find out more click here.  More information relating to this application has been added to the Borough Council’s website and the Planning Officer is presently awaiting amended plans. Charles Church has requested thattheir planning application be considered at the Borough Council’s June 25th Planning Committee. However we won’t know until nearer the time as to whether their application is on the agenda or not.
Laurence Robertson MP has indicated that he will be happy to meet parishioners regarding the proposeddevelopments in Alderton and has also confirmed that he is in talks with the Defence Minister regarding the future of Ashchurch Army Camp. We will be accepting Laurence’s proposal and making arrangements for a meeting. The Borough Council have not, as yet, received planning applications from any of the other developers presentlyinterested in Alderton. However, should the Charles Church application go to Planning Committee in June then other site applications may appear, as they will want to “put their cards on the table”.  The Alderton Community Design Statement Consultation is available for views and comments on Sat and Sun 18-19th May in the Village Hall from 2pm - 4pm.
