3. CLUBS & SOCIETIESGARDENING CLUB NEWS www.aldertonvillage.co.uk/alderton-gardening-club Phil Kitson/Tom Cullimore Alderton Gardening Club met on 9th October in the Village Hall, attracting another excellent turnout of 64 members and guests – thank you to everyone who came along! We were delighted to welcome back horticulturalist Marion Stainton for her talk, “The Winter Garden – Landscapes, Plants & Tasks.” Marion last visited us in 2018, when our club was just starting out. Now living with her husband in the Forest of Dean, Marion previously gardened at “The Brooks” near Abergavenny, which many of us fondly remember visiting for afternoon tea. Her talk, perfectly timed with winter approaching, offered practical advice on how to make the most of the garden during the quieter months. Pruning featured prominently, with clear demonstrations and tips on techniques to keep plants healthy and productive. Marion’s PowerPoint presentation showcased inspiring images of winter gardens, colourful planting combinations, and trees and shrubs that add structure and vibrancy even in the coldest season. After an hour of fascinating insights, Marion took several audience questions before a warm round of applause. The evening continued with the Chairman’s October jobs and tips, club news, and the presentation of our monthly newsletter photo prize – congratulations to Sandra Keys, whose striking Gazania bloom won her a garden voucher. Our eight-prize raffle, organised by Secretary Julie Alvis, was drawn by Marion herself, followed by thanks and another hearty round of applause. Special thanks also to Bill Treen for providing packets of sunflower seeds – a lovely seasonal gift much appreciated by all. Our next meeting will be on Wednesday 13th November, when Will Scott will present “Tool Sharpening for the Terrified.” Bring along your blunt tools and learn new skills! As always, enjoy free refreshments, our raffle, and monthly gardening tips. Members £3 | Non-members £6 | Doors open 6.45pm, talk starts 7.30pm. 4. GREAT WASHBOURNE NEWSCAROL SINGING Advance notice for your diaries that the village CAROL SINGING evening will be held in the church on Monday 22nd December. Hope you can join us. 5.
