Alderton Village Newsletter - November 2023Note from Editor: The clocks have gone back now so we are approaching Winter. Lots of exciting things to look forward to. Just a reminder…. there are dogs, cats, horses and sheep in the village that might be frightened or injured by fireworks. There is a great display at Springhill, but if you are having fireworks at home, PLEASE warn your neighbours either in person or via the village WhatsApp groups. I’d also like to wish the one and only Tom Collimore a speedy recovery from his recent accident. Finally, please support the village New Year’s Eve Party in the Village Hall. It will bring us all together and save a lot on taxi fares! Mary Merheim You can receive this, and all future newsletters via email by signing up here: www.aldertonvillage.co.uk/newsletter-signup 1. Firstly, welcome back Yari. Not only did we miss him as a person, but with both Alderton and Winchcombe Post Offices being closed I, for one, realised what an asset it is to the village. Thank you to the Allotment Association and the allotment holders for the ‘Sharing Bench’. Times are hard and I know it has helped villagers who are struggling to make ends meet. The proposal may go to the October Planning Committee. Alderton Village Newsletter - September 2023Note from Editor:
Well, that was the Summer that never happened, wasn’t it? Good luck to everyone starting the new academic year and well done parents for getting through the holidays! There is the Produce Show coming up, so see what’s been growing and maybe think about getting an allotment. Chris Beardshaw is visiting the Gardening Club to inspire you even more. Plus, it’s Harvest Festival this month. Because there is so much news, I don’t have space to advertise businesses I’m afraid. I believe you can add yourself to the aldertonvillage.co.uk website. PROPOSED NEW DEVELOPMENT – Land East of St Margaret’s Drive [was 55 houses, now 48 houses] Tewkesbury Borough Council have decided that there is not a sufficient case to pursue a judicial review to the High Court. The next stage therefore is to await the full Planning Application and comment accordingly. The only immediate activity in the field relates to archaeological excavation. The Daily Express revisited Alderton to hear from residents and the Parish Council about their huge disappointment with the Inquiry outcome. Alderton Village Newsletter - August 2023 Note from Editor:
Hopefully children and parents are enjoying the Summer break and we have a sunnier August! Good luck and best wishes to everyone getting exam results this month. Recently there has been a spate of door-to-door callers offering to power wash drives and roofs. The latest company is suspected to be bogus, despite smart leaflets. The advice from the police and Citizens Advice is to “use well-known known local companies who can provide genuine references and a land line number. Get quotes from more than one company. Even better if they have been recommended by people you trust & you can see examples of their work.” Mary Merheim You can receive this, and all future newsletters via email by signing up here: https://www.aldertonvillage.co.uk/newsletter-signup 1. PARISH COUNCIL NEWS www.aldertonparishcouncil.org.uk aldertonpc@gmail.com PROPOSED NEW DEVELOPMENT – Land East of St Margaret’s Drive [was 55 houses, now 48 houses] We have received the very disappointing outcome to the Inquiry. The only scope to challenge the outcome would be through a judicial review and the Parish Council have said to Tewkesbury Borough Council that we would support them if they chose that route. Otherwise careful attention needs to be paid to the detail of the full planning application. A village meeting to discuss the implications was attended by over 60 villagers. PROPOSED NEW DEVELOPMENT- Land South of Dibden Lane [ 26 affordable houses] There are still some reports missing so consideration of the application by Tewkesbury’s Planning Committee remains delayed. Alderton Village Newsletter - July 2023 Note from Editor:
Well, we have had the news that the planning application for 48 houses off St Margaret’s Drive has been approved. The villagers came together to speak up against the developers but to no avail. It appears that because Tewkesbury Borough Council doesn’t have a ‘5 Year housing supply’ this counts against us and leads to the further expansion of our village. There have been some break ins to vans and sheds on the allotments recently. Please keeps things locked up, ensure your outside lights and cameras are working and report incidents or anything suspicious to the Police. In happier news, the Summer is well and truly here and schools will break up for their holiday this month. Well, weren’t we lucky with the weather for the Coronation Street Party? Good luck to the youngsters of the village taking exams this month. June has lots to offer: the longest day, Father’s Day, several events in Great Washbourne and lots of local events to Gloucestershire. It’s lovely to hear the village livening up with laughter and music in gardens as well as the smell of barbecues. Obviously, though, we have to be respectful of our neighbours. On this note I’ve had a message about ‘dog barking’ from someone on Willowbank Road who works from home and says “Last year it really spoiled my enjoyment of my home and garden almost leading us to want to move out of the village.” Let’s try and keep everyone (including the dogs!) happy. Alderton businesses: please send me a logo and brief description of you and what you offer…this will be added FREE at the end of the digital edition.
