Alderton Village Newsletter - May 2023Note from Editor:
Fingers crossed for the weather over our three Bank Holidays this month! We are really hoping as many of you as possible can join in the Street Party/Picnic on Sunday 7th. Alderton is a growing village and will only thrive if we all come together to support each other. Whether your family have been here for generations or this is your first time living in a village you are ALL valuable members of the community. Thanks to an incredibly generous village resident I have been donated a new printer. I shouldn’t have any more problems creating the paper copies for the shop and the church, but please get your entries for the newsletter before the deadline. Alderton businesses: please send me a logo and brief description of you and what you offer…this will be added FREE at the end of the digital edition. Mary Merheim You can receive this, and all future newsletters via email by signing up here: https://www.aldertonvillage.co.uk/newsletter-signup 1. PARISH COUNCIL NEWS www.aldertonparishcouncil.org.uk KEITH PAGE – After 40 years of service, many of which have been as Chair, Keith Page is standing down from the Parish Council. He has devoted countless hours of voluntary service including practical work which otherwise would have incurred a considerable bill for the Parish. He was a leading figure in the building of the village hall, in the expansion of the allotments and the development of the Playing Field and Children’s Playground. We hope that Keith will maintain his links with the Council but in a less demanding capacity. Alderton Village Newsletter - April 20231. NOTE FROM EDITOR
I know there are some super events planned in the village in the next couple of months, so please do support them as much as you can. Having recently returned to the village, it’s the sense of community and friendship that I missed and am so pleased to be a part of again. Thank you for all the kind words I’ve received about the new newsletter. I know the move to being predominantly online is a controversial one, but paper copies will always be available for anyone who can’t access this online. The idea was not mine, initially, but requested by a villager. The positives of going digital are:
I hope you, as an Aldertonian, understand why the decision was made. Mary Merheim 2. PARISH COUNCIL NEWS Mike West - www.aldertonparishcouncil.org.uk PROPOSED NEW DEVELOPMENTS Maps of the three current proposals are on noticeboards so villagers can see the extent of possible change and expansion. 1. Land East of St Margaret’s Drive [was 55 houses, now 48 houses] This Enquiry is scheduled for 4th to 6th and 12th to 14th April. All comments made will be available to the Planning Inspector and the Parish Council will play a full role at the Hearing under what is called Rule Six Status. There will be an opportunity for villagers to speak during the Hearing and over 10 have volunteered to give statements. The Enquiry is likely to be held virtually, by video, rather than face to face. Alderton Village Newsletter - February 2023Happy New Year, Happy New Newsletter!
Note from Editor: I am Mary Merheim and on the brink of moving back to the village (2 Church Road). I have taken over editing this newsletter from Caroline Page, who will be a tough act to follow. The Newsletter has been going for years and years and I feel very privileged to take it on. To keep it going I am asking local businesses to take it in turns to sponsor the newsletter each month to cover the paper and ink for 420 copies. Anything left over at the end of the year will be added to funds at the Charity Football match. To kick off I am sponsoring the February newsletter myself! PARISH COUNCIL NEWS Mike West - www.aldertonparishcouncil.org.uk The Parish Council thanks Mary Merheim for taking over responsibility for the newsletter. PARISH CLERK AND RESPONSIBLE FINANCIAL OFFICER - the Parish Council welcomed Julie Whiting to her first meeting. DAILY EXPRESS: Views from the Parish Council and other villagers were reported in a front page article in the Daily Express on Monday 16 January called “ COUNTRYSIDE UNDER SIEGE IN RUSH FOR HOMES”. PROPOSED NEW DEVELOPMENT – Land East of St Margaret’s Drive [was 55 houses, now 48 houses] This application went to the Tewkesbury Borough Planning Committee on 17th January. The Parish Council made a short presentation and the application was refused by the Committee. A Parish Council leaflet was circulated to villagers at the beginning of January explaining that if the application were refused it would go to a Public Enquiry. We now know this Enquiry will be on 4th to 6th and 12th to 14th April in Tewkesbury. All commentmade will be available to the Planning Inspector and the Parish Council will play a full role at the Hearing under what is called Rule Six Status. There will be an opportunity for villagers to speak during the Hearing. More details of the timetable should be available following a Case Conference at the end of the month and will be publicised in the next newsletter. Alderton Village Newsletter - December 2022I am pleased to tell you that the newsletter will continue with a new editor from January 2023. I would like to thank everyone who has supported the newsletter during my 11 years as Editor with contributions of news, reams of paper and financial donations. Finally, a huge THANK YOU to our printer, John Appleton and our wonderful band of distributors for their support and commitment each month.
Just to remind you, we do not produce a newsletter for the end of December so the next one will be printed at the end of January 2023. PARISH COUNCIL NEWS www.aldertonparishcouncil.org.uk PROPOSED NEW DEVELOPMENT – Land South of Beckford Road [35 houses] THIS IS A DEVELOPMENT OF AROUND 35 DWELLINGS ON LAND SOUTH OF BECKFORD ROAD [ behind the Charles Church development]. As far as can be seen, communication about this from the Developer has been restricted to neighbouring properties. We therefore await a Planning application and will notify villagers when we hear. PROPOSED NEW DEVELOPMENT – Land West of Willow Bank Road [56 houses] Thanks to villagers who have commented on this. There are 119 objections to date. It is still possible to comment. How to make your comments:
Alderton Village Newsletter - November 2022 - No. 498NEWSLETTER MAY STOP!
No volunteers have come forward to take over running the newsletter so there is a real possibility that it will stop. There are a number of roles associated with getting the newsletter produced and delivered. Firstly, we have a continuing team of dedicated volunteers who distribute to all households. We then have Caroline who receives contributions and puts the newsletter together – this is a few hours per month – and another few hours from John who does the printing. There is a reasonably modern and quick printer available. It is the editing and printing roles where we need new volunteers. If anyone would like to discuss taking over one or both tasks please ring, Caroline, on 01242 620630. The newsletter is an independent publication which has been running for 42 years and is delivered to EVERY house. New social media outlets provide a welcome source for village news but not everyone has access to it and those who do, say they still welcome a printed update of village news on a monthly basis. Sending electronically has many difficulties particularly given GDPR rules. PARISH COUNCIL NEWS www.aldertonparishcouncil.org.uk PROPOSED NEW DEVELOPMENT – Land South of Beckford Road [35 houses] HARD TO BELIEVE BUT THERE IS YET ANOTHER PLANNING APPLICATION IN PREPARATION – THIS IS A DEVELOPMENT OF AROUND 35 DWELLINGS ON LAND SOUTH OF BECKFORD ROAD [ behind the Charles Church development]. No doubt more news on this will be communicated to villagers in due course. |
