Alderton Village Newsletter - March 2024Note from Editor: I think my favourite Spring sight is lambs in the fields around the village. Don’t forget Cheltenham Festival races are quite early this year, so prepare for traffic issues in the week beginning 12th March. Hopefully the daffodils will last, although I’ve heard there might be snow coming? Also don’t forget Mother’s Day on 10th! Yes, there is, it appears, a limit to my technology skills! Thankfully it gives people a little more time to add a contribution. The forecast for February seems reasonably mild at the moment….not too much ice hopefully. I gather we have lambs in the fields by the village. What a wonderful nod to Spring coming already. However, I’ve had a request to mention PLEASE wear something hi viz when out at dusk/night especially where there is no pavement as on Dibden Lane. Alderton Village Newsletter - January 2024Note from Editor: Belated Happy New Year!!! It’s a very wet and windy start to the year so I hope everyone is coping OK. What a December we had in the village! The pub’s Christmas Quiz and roast dinner was fabulous. Then they hosted lots of Christmas Parties, Christmas Day Dinner and coped with the wet and muddy players and spectators from the traditional Charity Football Match. The festivities didn’t stop there with Christmas coffee mornings in the Village Hall and the Christingle, outdoor carols and Christmas service at the church. Finally we had the New Year’s Eve Party at the Village Hall….another awesome event. January promises to be quieter. There are still clubs and societies doing their thing though, so no time to rest! PROPOSED NEW DEVELOPMENT – Land West of Willow Bank Road, near the stream bridge. The Parish Council have received a new planning application for up to 9 houses on land west of Willow Bank Road. This is the land to the right immediately beyond the stream bridge heading out of the village, with the sewage pipe crossing through the site. The application is for Permission in Principle. This is a process which establishes whether the site is suitable in principle and is followed by a later stage where the detailed development proposals are assessed. The Parish Council will be objecting to this proposal. Key issues in considering such an application relate to location, land use and amount of development. Starting with the church fair on Saturday 2nd and ending with the New Year’s Eve Party on 31st! A villager has asked me to politely remind everyone that the Highway Code for passing horses is at 10mph. I’ve been told most people are very courteous, but we don’t want any horses or riders injured. PROPOSED NEW DEVELOPMENT – Land West of Willow Bank Road [Now 48 houses] This proposal went to the November Planning Committee. The Parish Council, a local resident and one of our Councillors spoke in opposition. There followed considerable debate in which we received support from our local Councillors but on a split vote the proposal was eventually agreed. Those who voted for the proposal, in general, accepted that Alderton should not have any further development of this magnitude but believed that a case could not be won at Appeal in light of a series of recent decisions by Planning Inspectors. The agreed proposal provides for full planning permission. Alderton Village Newsletter - November 2023Note from Editor: The clocks have gone back now so we are approaching Winter. Lots of exciting things to look forward to. Just a reminder…. there are dogs, cats, horses and sheep in the village that might be frightened or injured by fireworks. There is a great display at Springhill, but if you are having fireworks at home, PLEASE warn your neighbours either in person or via the village WhatsApp groups. I’d also like to wish the one and only Tom Collimore a speedy recovery from his recent accident. Finally, please support the village New Year’s Eve Party in the Village Hall. It will bring us all together and save a lot on taxi fares! Mary Merheim You can receive this, and all future newsletters via email by signing up here: www.aldertonvillage.co.uk/newsletter-signup 1. Firstly, welcome back Yari. Not only did we miss him as a person, but with both Alderton and Winchcombe Post Offices being closed I, for one, realised what an asset it is to the village. Thank you to the Allotment Association and the allotment holders for the ‘Sharing Bench’. Times are hard and I know it has helped villagers who are struggling to make ends meet.
